Ben Firth – Golfer
Turned Professional January 2020
I have known Phil for a few years through local golf. He is very particular with the way he goes about everything and has been a big contributor with helping me reach that ‘next’ level in my golf game.
Phil caddied for me in the Brabazon Trophy (elite amateur event) in 2019 where he monitored my eating habits and noticed there was a clear pattern between my good shots and bad shots relating to how I’d fuelled myself with big energy dips in the middle of a round. Thankfully Phil offered to help me get on top of that problem with some very simple suggestions having an immediate effect; I shot 67 the day after and eventually tied 4th in the toughest field of the season. Soon after that competition where I began to feel I had found an edge over my competitors by having much more consistent energy levels and reducing the amount of poor shots I was hitting.
Phil worked closely with my swing coach Joe to help monitor progress through the season and also understands the energy demands that golf brings in a sport where, as elite players, we are rarely offered help. Phil is really hands on with his approach and even sent me personalised videos of how to make a good breakfast when on the run which was very helpful. Without his expertise and guidance I don’t think I would’ve gone onto having such a successful season, culminating in reaching a handicap of plus 5, winning British Open Qualifying & a highlight of shooting a course record 64 in the English Amateur.
